An Updated Main Floor Renovation & Addition in Urbandale, Iowa

This central Iowan home remodel was done less than five years after the house was built, and was initiated not only to update the space but also to create additional room to accommodate a growing family. Our goal as the designer and remodeler was to construct a space that would remain functional and stylish for a long time—we wanted to avoid another remodel within the next couple of years! 

You can see that there was an emphasis placed on practical storage throughout the entire home. We wanted there to be more than enough room for this family’s belongings as they continued to grow. The mudroom/laundry room is equipped with locker-style compartments and cubbies with warm cream and golden colors that welcome members into the home. The storage theme continues as we see an abundance of built-in cabinetry, still following the same color scheme with the addition of black countertops that pop against its lighter counterparts. 

Throughout the rest of this home’s rooms, you can see rich wood floors and cabinets, which are complemented by black countertops and green walls. You’ll also notice a wealth of natural light present in the dining room that seeps into the kitchen. The large windows and natural light truly help to open up the space. Again, storage is prioritized with many available compartments, both high and low, hidden and apparent.
