The Speakeasy of Des Moines
The Hidden Home Speakeasy of Des Moines
The Prohibition era has nothing on this homeowner’s speakeasy. Hidden underneath a floorboard in their living room, this speakeasy opens up and transports any guest to a time of secrecy and spirits. By using bricked walls, this industrial-style room makes you feel as though you just walked into it along a cobblestone street. Furniture that is rich in color with different textures provides a cozy feeling alongside the use of warm lighting throughout the space.
To give it more of an underground feel, we included an archway along the top of the room, making you feel as though you’re in an underground tunnel. Now the centerpiece of the design would be the built-in shelving and wine racks, sectioned off by the space in glass. Hundreds of wine bottles can be stored here, with a counter built-in to set up personal wine tastings. For decor, we chose black chandeliers for a vintage look and used stackable wooden crates to create a storeroom feel. Lastly, a bar cabinet was added to include other drinks and beyond wine. This home remodel is truly one of a kind.
